Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs’ Statement Against TransCanada

Share

On June 13, 2016 the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs interrupted  the “Wet’suwet’en Matrilineal Coalition” meeting with Transcanada  on Laksilyu territory.

This illegitimate collaboration with industry is in opposition to the  authority of the hereditary chiefs who oppose pipeline projects.

The company called the “Wet’suwet’en Matrilineal Coalition” was created without consultation, in contradiction of the Wet’suwet’en governance system, by individuals who lack the proper authority.

Katie Scott of the provincial Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, and Liquified Natural Gas officials departed immediately upon learning the Hereditary Chiefs were about to enter the hall, before traditional invitations could be extended for a Feast that will be held at the Moricetown Multiplex on June 30, 2016.
